Zaan Sonnekus (born Cézaan Sonnekus in Bloemfontein) is a singer, songwriter and musician based in Pretoria. He attended the Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies) and studied music production at COPA. Receiving his first guitar at age ten, he describes his style as alternative rock with a soulful backbone, citing influences such as Muse, John Mayer, Kaleo and Kings of Leon. He released his first single in 2017 and his debut alternative-Afrikaans album Zonneblom in October 2021, featuring singles like 'Ek Kan Net Bid' and 'Hoog'. He is also an entrepreneur, co-founding the audio company Son Sound.
