W.A.S.P. is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1982 by frontman Blackie Lawless, its only constant member. Rising from the early-1980s LA scene on the strength of shock-rock stage shows, the band drew controversy that fed the mid-1980s PMRC hearings and has since sold millions of albums worldwide.
