Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks

Vince Giordano is an American bass saxophonist and the leader of the New York-based Nighthawks Orchestra, who specialise in the jazz of the 1920s and 1930s — Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington — played on the instruments of the period. Born in Brooklyn, he was listening to that music on a wind-up Victrola at five and playing string bass and bass saxophone professionally at fifteen, taking lessons from Bill Challis to learn how those dance bands wrote their arrangements. The Nighthawks' soundtrack work runs from Boardwalk Empire to The Aviator, Finding Forrester and Killers of the Flower Moon, in which Giordano appears as a radio show bandleader.
