UB40

UB40 are an English reggae band formed in Birmingham in December 1978 and named after the attendance card issued to people claiming unemployment benefits from the UK government. Their first album, Signing Off (1980), was recorded in a Birmingham bedsit, while Labour of Love (1983) and Promises and Lies (1993) both reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. The band have placed more than 50 singles in the UK Singles Chart, among them the Billboard Hot 100 number ones "Red Red Wine" and "(I Can't Help) Falling in Love with You" and a version of "I Got You Babe" cut with Chrissie Hynde, and have sold more than 100 million records worldwide. Remaining co-founding members include Jimmy Brown, Robin Campbell, Earl Falconer and Norman Hassan, with Matt Doyle on lead vocals since 2021.
