The Rasmus formed in Helsinki in 1994, while the members were still in upper comprehensive school. Lauri Ylönen has fronted them throughout; the drum stool changed hands twice before Aki Hakala settled in behind it, and guitarist Emilia "Emppu" Suhonen replaced founder Pauli Rantasalmi in 2022. "In the Shadows", from 2003, is the song that travelled: the band has sold over 6 million albums worldwide, 350,000 of them in Finland alone, and has won awards at home and abroad. They represented Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with "Jezebel".
