The Drones are an Australian rock band formed in Perth in 1997 by singer-guitarist Gareth Liddiard. Trading in a raw, unorthodox mix of blues, garage, noise and punk, they built a reputation as one of the country's most uncompromising groups, with Fiona Kitschin joining on bass in 2002. Their acclaimed albums include Wait Long by the River and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By (2005), Gala Mill (2006) and I See Seaweed (2013). In 2006 they won the inaugural Australian Music Prize, and in 2010 Rolling Stone Australia named them Best Live Act. The band entered hiatus in December 2016 but reunited for Melbourne shows in 2025. On stage they are known for ferocious, intense performances that have long marked them as a formidable live act.
