About
Sugar are an American alternative rock band led by Bob Mould, formerly of Hüsker Dü, with David Barbe on bass and Malcolm Travis on drums. They rehearsed thirty songs in the back of a tire shop in Athens, Georgia in early 1992, took their name from a sugar packet in a Waffle House, and played their first concert at the 40 Watt Club on 20 February. Copper Blue followed on Rykodisc and Creation Records and was named album of the year by NME; "If I Can't Change Your Mind" and "Helpless" got heavy MTV rotation, and the EP Beaster came in 1993. After thirty years of inactivity the band reformed in October 2025.
