Styx are an American rock band formed in Chicago in 1972, originally built around Dennis DeYoung, James Young, John Curulewski and brothers Chuck and John Panozzo, with Tommy Shaw joining in 1975. Blending melodic hard rock with synthesizers, acoustic textures and theatrical ambition, they became one of the defining arena-rock acts of their era. From 1977 to 1981 they scored four consecutive multi-platinum albums, including the chart-topping concept record Paradise Theatre, and landed hits such as “Come Sail Away”, the number-one ballad “Babe” and “Mr. Roboto”. The band sold over 20 million records for A&M between 1975 and 1984. Known for elaborate staging, Styx remain a durable touring act decades on.
