Sting is an English musician, born Gordon Sumner in Wallsend in 1951, first famous as the frontman, bassist and chief songwriter of the Police. With Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers he steered that band to five UK number-one albums and global hits like "Roxanne" and "Every Breath You Take" before launching a wide-ranging solo career in 1985. His genre-crossing solo work spans rock, jazz, folk and worldbeat, yielding standards such as "Fields of Gold" and "Englishman in New York." He has won 17 Grammy Awards, sold more than 100 million records and received the Kennedy Center Honors. A tireless live performer, Sting tours the world across arenas, symphony collaborations and intimate theatre shows.
