About
Katherine Jenkins is a Welsh mezzo-soprano, born in Neath in 1980, who sings operatic arias, hymns, musical theatre and popular song. She won a scholarship at seventeen to the Royal Academy of Music, and came to wide public attention in 2003 singing at Westminster Cathedral in honour of Pope John Paul II's silver jubilee. Universal offered her a six-album deal, her debut Premiere followed in 2004, and Classic BRIT Awards for Album of the Year came in two consecutive years; Guiding Light later made her the first classical artist with thirteen number-one albums. In 2022 the BBC asked her to record the first “God Save the King” for Charles III. Appointed OBE in the 2014 New Year Honours, she brings a 25 Year Anniversary Tour to the UK and Ireland in October 2026.
