About
Jesse Allen Breckenridge Wells, who performs as Jesse Welles, is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist born on 22 November 1992. He released a debut album, Red Trees and White Trashes, in 2018, having previously recorded as Jeh Sea Wells and fronted the bands Dead Indian and Cosmic-American. In 2024 he began writing and performing folk protest songs — "The Poor", "Cancer", "United Health", "War Isn't Murder" — released as hooky snippets on social media several times a week. Vulture called it "old-fashioned folkie signifiers and trending-topic populism"; others have called him a modern Woody Guthrie. Four Grammy nominations followed in 2026.
