About
Interpol formed in Manhattan in 1997 and first performed at Luna Lounge alongside peers such as the Strokes, Longwave, the National and Stellastarr, emerging with the post-punk revival of the 2000s. Paul Banks sings and Daniel Kessler plays lead guitar; Sam Fogarino replaced Greg Drudy on drums in 2000, and after Carlos Dengler left in 2010 Banks took on bass in the studio. Longtime touring musicians Brandon Curtis and Brad Truax were named official members in 2026. Turn On the Bright Lights was named Pitchfork's top album of 2002; Antics and Our Love to Admire brought greater critical and commercial success. The band has no primary songwriter — every member contributes to the composition.
