About
Dermot Joseph Kennedy, born on 13 December 1991, is an Irish singer and songwriter whose music blends folk and hip-hop. He grew up in Rathcoole, County Dublin, took up guitar at 11, was busking on Grafton Street in Dublin by 16, and graduated from Maynooth University with a Bachelor of Music in 2012. Worldwide recognition arrived in 2016, when Spotify added two of his self-released tracks to its playlists; “Power Over Me” and “Outnumbered” followed, the latter reaching number 6 on the UK singles chart. Without Fear (2019) and Sonder (2022) preceded The Weight of the Woods, released in April 2026, which debuted at number 1 on the UK Albums Chart and made him the first Irish artist with three number 1 albums. He is signed to Interscope Records in the US and Island Records elsewhere.
