About
Curtis Stigers is an American jazz singer, born in Hollywood, California in 1965 but raised in Boise, Idaho. He played in rock and blues bands as a teenager and learned clarinet and saxophone at school, taking much of his motivation for jazz from jam sessions Gene Harris led at the Idanha Hotel; his song "Swingin' Down at Tenth and Main" is a tribute to them. He moved to New York meaning to be a rock musician and spent his time in jazz clubs instead. His debut for Arista went multi-platinum, and his version of Nick Lowe's "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding" appeared on The Bodyguard soundtrack. "I Wonder Why" reached No. 5 in the UK in 1991.
