The room

The Triffid is a live music venue at 7-9 Stratton Street in Newstead, a short walk from Brisbane's Fortitude Valley, housed in an old commercial hangar whose WWII heritage the venue has kept alongside its beer garden. Its Live Room holds 700 standing under the hangar's barrel-vaulted roof, with a mezzanine looking down on the floor; taken as a whole — Live Room, Mezzanine Bar, foyer, deck and garden — the site holds 1,100 for a cocktail event. The Triffid Garden runs free live music of its own — Sundowners from 5pm on a Friday, weekenders, and the monthly Triffid Sundays — beneath the Hero Wall, a mural that pays tribute to influential Queensland artists. It was voted Metro Venue of the Year in the Queensland Music Awards' People's Choice awards in 2019 and again in 2020.
