The Princess Theatre, at 8 Annerley Road in Woolloongabba, describes itself as Queensland's oldest standing theatre. The heritage-listed building opened in 1888 as a public hall designed by Brisbane architect John Beauchamp Nicholson, was known in its early years as the South Brisbane Public Hall and then the Boggo Road Theatre, and took the name The Princess when West's Pictures leased it as a picture theatre. It later housed a rag merchant, a secondhand dealer, a paper wholesaler, an engineering firm and a church, and was added to the Queensland Heritage Register in 1992. The owners of The Tivoli reopened it in 2021, after a restoration, as a home for live music and performing arts: the auditorium holds up to 920 standing or 527 seated, alongside four bars, a café, private event spaces and an outdoor courtyard.
