Av. Independencia 90
The room
Teatro Metropólitan is a 3,165-capacity theatre at Av. Independencia 90 in Colonia Centro, downtown Mexico City, one block south of the Alameda Central. It was built as a movie palace and known then as the Cine Metropólitan, with Pedro Gorozpe E. as its architect and interior decoration by Aurelio G. Mendoza, and it opened on 8 September 1943; its seating was later reduced, and was given as 3,627 in 1955 and 3,005 in 1971. It closed as a cinema in the early 1990s, was renovated in 1995 and reopened on 18 December 1996 as a live venue staging mainly rock concerts, and OCESA has operated it since 1996. The venue sells the house in five blocks — two preferente sections in the stalls, of 869 and 925 places, and three balcony sections, Zona Balcón C, Zona Balcón D and Zona Balcón E, of 348, 530 and 493 — which is where its 3,165 comes from. The box office opens Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 to 17:00, and the Metro stations Juárez, on line 3, and Hidalgo, on line 2, are the nearest.
