The Green
The room
Richmond Theatre stands on Little Green, beside Richmond Green in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It opened on 18 September 1899 as the Theatre Royal and Opera House, and the red brick and buff terracotta building — the most completely preserved work of the theatre architect Frank Matcham in Greater London — is listed Grade II* by Historic England. The auditorium keeps its stalls, dress and upper circles with four boxes at dress level, and an early-1990s overhaul overseen by the designer Carl Toms added a side extension. Now part of ATG Entertainment, it runs a weekly programme of plays and musicals with music events, children's shows and a long pantomime tradition.
