The room
The hall sits inside the Gasometer in Vienna's Simmering district — four gasholders of 1896 whose facades were kept when the buildings were converted between 1999 and 2001 into flats, a student residence, a shopping centre and an events hall. The venue occupies the gasometer remodelled by the Viennese architects Coop Himmelb(l)au, measures 1,400 square metres and holds 4,200 people, filling a gap in the city between the Wiener Stadthalle, which takes up to 16,000, and rooms topping out at about 1,500.
