The room
PACOFS, the Performing Arts Centre of the Free State, is the leading performing-arts institution in Bloemfontein, central South Africa. Established in 1963 as one of four provincial arts councils, its permanent home — the Sand du Plessis Theatre — opened in 1985 and seats roughly 964. The centre has presented drama, opera, ballet and music, and founded South Africa's first permanent opera company. Renamed in 1996 when it became a nonprofit, it remains the flagship theatre of the Free State.
