100 St Kilda Road
The room
A 2,466-seat concert hall on St Kilda Road in Southbank, Melbourne, and the largest indoor venue at Arts Centre Melbourne, used mostly for orchestral and contemporary music. Designed by Roy Grounds as part of the cultural centre that also holds the National Gallery of Victoria, it opened in 1982 as the Melbourne Concert Hall and was renamed in 2004 in honour of Sir Rupert Hamer, the 39th Premier of Victoria. It reopened on 26 July 2012 after an A$136 million redevelopment that added foyer space and improved the acoustics, disability access and seating.
