Empire Theatre

A heritage-listed art deco theatre on Neil Street in Toowoomba, added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 31 May 1994. Most of the present building dates from 1933 and incorporates substantial sections of an earlier theatre put up on the site in 1911; it was built as a purpose-designed picture theatre, and among its most striking features is a grand proscenium arch. The stage is over 13 metres wide and 12 metres deep with roughly 20 metres to the grid, 80 fly lines, and an orchestra pit that can be raised hydraulically to stage or audience level.
