BC Place is a multi-purpose stadium on the north side of False Creek in Vancouver, owned and operated by the BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo), a Crown corporation of the province. It opened in 1983 under an air-supported roof; after serving as the Olympic stadium for the 2010 Winter Olympics it closed for 16 months while that roof was replaced by a retractable one supported by cables. The retractable centre, about 100 by 85 metres, covers the whole playing surface and takes around 20 minutes to open or close, and seated guests stay covered either way. Home of the BC Lions (CFL) and Vancouver Whitecaps FC (MLS), the stadium also stages concerts, and says it has welcomed more than 35 million guests since opening.
