Friedrichstrasse 101
The room
A 1,756-seat theatre on Friedrichstraße in the Mitte district of Berlin, and one of the city's few surviving pre-war variety venues. It opened in 1910 as part of a leisure complex on the site of the 1873 Admiralsgarten bath house, with a skating rink, baths, bowling alleys, a café and a cinema, and turned to revue and operetta after the First World War. Having survived the bombing largely intact, it housed the Berlin State Opera until 1955. It was listed as a protected landmark in 2002 and reopened after renovation in August 2006 with Klaus Maria Brandauer's production of The Threepenny Opera.
