Melkweg (Dutch for 'Milky Way') is a nonprofit music and cultural centre near Leidseplein in Amsterdam. It opened in July 1970 in a former dairy building and became a year-round operation in 1973. The complex holds several performance spaces — including The Max (capacity around 1,500) and the Rabo Hall (around 1,400) — plus halls, a cinema and exhibition space, staging live music, film, theatre and exhibitions. U2 played their first concert outside Ireland and the UK here in 1980, and Nirvana performed in 1989. TR/ST is a pop act.
