A multi-purpose arena in downtown Spokane, Washington, home to the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League. Voters rejected it four times in six years before approving it in 1991 through three funding measures totalling $44.8 million; ground was broken in March 1993 and it opened in September 1995. It holds 12,638 for end-stage concerts and 10,366 for ice hockey, and was the Spokane Arena and then Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena before its present name. The Red Clay Strays are an Alabama band whose gospel-charged Southern rock broke out with Wondering Why and a reputation as one of America's fiercest live acts.
