Toronto's celebrated performing-arts auditorium in the Garden District, opened in 1894 and renowned for its outstanding acoustics. A gift to the city from industrialist Hart Massey, it long housed the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Mendelssohn Choir. Renovations in 1933 trimmed its seating to 2,765. A National Historic Site since 1981, it still draws famous artists across every genre. Mon Laferte is a Chilean-Mexican singer whose torch-song power and genre range — bolero, cumbia, rock — made her one of Latin America's most-awarded artists.
