York's indoor entertainment hub at the southern edge of the city centre, opposite the medieval walls and named for the nearby barbican at Walmgate Bar. It seats 1,500 or holds 1,900 standing and keeps a busy diary of live music, comedy, sport and conferences. Best known outside music circles as the long-running home of snooker's UK Championship. Marillion are the British band who carried progressive rock through the 80s with Kayleigh and then pioneered crowdfunding, sustaining one of music's most devoted fanbases.
