Mr. Smalls is a live music venue in Millvale, Pennsylvania, just outside Pittsburgh, in the former St. Ann's Catholic Church of 1924. Mike Speranzo and Liz Berlin — a longtime member of Rusted Root — bought the building in 2000 and opened it as a venue in 2002, keeping the 40 foot ceilings and windows of the old congregation room and fitting them with acoustic panelling. The Theatre stage holds 800 with a standing floor, two bars and a VIP balcony; the smaller Funhouse stage opened in April 2016, and there is a café in the basement, a restaurant and a multi-level courtyard with its own stage. Fall Out Boy, Muse, Smashing Pumpkins, Interpol, Kesha and Metric have all played. Man Man are a Philadelphia experimental rock band whose manic, Waits-ian carnival shows made them a 2000s indie cult favourite.
