A movie palace in San Francisco's Castro District, built in 1922 to a design by Timothy L. Pflueger, who also drew Oakland's Paramount Theater. Its architecture mixes Beaux-Arts and Spanish Baroque, and the Art Deco marquee that has become the street's landmark was added in 1937. Lucero are a Memphis band who spent two decades fusing punk grit with country soul, becoming one of Americana's hardest-touring institutions.
