The Backstage is an alternative-music venue by the Friedenheimer Brücke in the Neuhausen-Nymphenburg district of Munich, running since 11 January 1991 out of the youth-culture initiative x-ray e. V. Its 3,600 square metres hold several spaces that can run at the same time — the Halle, the Club, the Werk, a beer garden and the open-air Arena — with programming built around hip-hop, dub and reggae, ethno-jazz, alternative, punk and hardcore, metal, electronic, rock and funk, plus festivals such as Free&Easy. Eminem played his first German concert here in 1999. It is run by Backstage Concerts GmbH without public subsidy. Kalimba is a latin act.
