The Princess Theatre is a 1,514-seat theatre on Torbay Road, on the Torquay seafront. It opened on 7 June 1961, built by Torbay Council as the centrepiece of the redevelopment of the Princess Gardens, and replaced a marquee that had been put up each year for summer shows. It is a touring house — it receives productions rather than making them — and its programme runs from concerts and comedy to opera, ballet, West End musicals and a Christmas pantomime. The council still owns it; ATG Entertainment operates it. John Cleese and the Holy Grail is a comedy act.
