Toronto's celebrated performing-arts auditorium in the Garden District, opened in 1894 and renowned for its outstanding acoustics. A gift to the city from industrialist Hart Massey, it long housed the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Mendelssohn Choir. Renovations in 1933 trimmed its seating to 2,765. A National Historic Site since 1981, it still draws famous artists across every genre. Herbie Hancock is a jazz act.
