Phoenix's largest outdoor concert venue, opened on 9 November 1990 with Billy Joel as its inaugural performer. It seats 8,106 under the pavilion roof plus another 12,000 on the hillside lawn, for a total topping 20,000. Known previously as Desert Sky Pavilion and Ak-Chin Pavilion, its concert season runs April through October. Empire of the Sun is Luke Steele (once of The Sleepy Jackson) and Nick Littlemore (of PNAU), who met in Sydney and in 2008 released Walking on a Dream, the record whose title track became one of the most-played Australian songs of its era.
