Utilita Arena Newcastle is an indoor arena on Arena Way in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, opened in 1995 and known for much of its life as the Metro Radio Arena. Seating around 11,000 for concerts, it is the north-east's largest indoor venue and a regular stop for arena tours, comedy and sport. Deep Purple are English hard-rock pioneers formed in 1968; Machine Head and Smoke on the Water helped invent heavy metal, and they remain a relentless touring force.
