A Grade II listed theatre in central Southampton, formerly the Gaumont and originally the Empire, seating 2,300. It is the largest theatre in South England outside London, more than twice the size of Brighton's Theatre Royal. Best known for touring West End productions, it also stages one-off comedy shows and music events. David Essex is an English pop icon of the 70s whose Rock On and Hold Me Close made him a teen idol, alongside a long stage and screen career.
