Manchester Academy is four concert rooms on the University of Manchester campus, run by the Students' Union: Academy 1 holds 2,600, Academy 2 950, Club Academy 650 and Academy 3 470. They are housed in two buildings — the original 1957 Students' Union, which began hosting concerts in 1963 with Humphrey Lyttelton and His Band, and the purpose-built Academy that opened in October 1990. The rooms took the Academy name in 2004 after the universities merged; unlike the other UK venues called Academy, this one is not run by the Academy Music Group. Dance Gavin Dance are a Sacramento post-hardcore band whose funk-laced 'swancore' and dual clean/screamed vocals power a prolific album run and devoted fandom.
