Bill Graham's psychedelic ballroom, the epicentre of 1960s San Francisco where the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix defined an era. The chandeliers, apple barrels and poster tradition survive. Big Star were formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1971 by Alex Chilton on vocals and guitar, Chris Bell on vocals and guitar, Jody Stephens on drums and Andy Hummel on bass.
