A lavish performing-arts palace at 2211 Woodward Avenue in Downtown Detroit, opened in 1928 as a flagship of the Fox Theatres chain and designed by architect C. Howard Crane. With 5,048 seats it is the largest surviving 1920s movie palace, a National Historic Landmark that lends its name to the surrounding Foxtown district and now hosts major concerts and shows. Beck is a Los Angeles genre-shapeshifter whose three-decade run spans the slacker anthem Loser, the heartbreak masterpiece Sea Change and the Grammy Album of the Year winner Morning Phase.
