The Tivoli is an indoor theatre, music venue and event space at 52 Costin Street in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, with a standing capacity of 1,560 and the nickname The Tiv. The building opened in 1917 as Adams Bakery and was later used by the State Library of Queensland to store rare books, before Ann Garms turned it into the Tivoli Restaurant and Theatre for Expo 88, modelled on the Paradis Latin in Paris; it opened in August 1989 with Putting on the Ritz. After being earmarked for development it was bought in 2016 by brothers Steve and Dave Sleswick, and it still retains its art deco features. Powderfinger, The Go-Betweens, Bob Dylan, Shirley Bassey, Marianne Faithfull, Belle and Sebastian and Taylor Swift have all played the room. Ash are a rock band from Downpatrick, County Down, Northern Ireland, formed in 1992 by vocalist and guitarist Tim Wheeler, bassist Mark Hamilton and drummer Rick McMurray.
