A 1913 working men's club in Hyde Park, Leeds, reborn as one of Britain's best-loved independent venues. Still a social enterprise with its community-club soul intact, its two 400-cap rooms host everyone from cult heroes to arena acts playing secret shows. Arab Strap are a Scottish duo from Falkirk — Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton — whose bleakly funny spoken-sung tales of nightlife made them Chemikal Underground legends.
