A restored 1930s art-deco council hall in Islington, reopened in 2010 as one of London's best-sounding mid-size stages. Altered Images are a Glasgow new-wave band fronted by Clare Grogan, whose 1981 hit Happy Birthday made them one of the era's brightest pop exports.
