A 1913 working men's club in Hyde Park, Leeds, reborn as one of Britain's best-loved independent venues. Still a social enterprise with its community-club soul intact, its two 400-cap rooms host everyone from cult heroes to arena acts playing secret shows. Altered Images are a Glasgow new-wave band fronted by Clare Grogan, whose 1981 hit Happy Birthday made them one of the era's brightest pop exports.
