A historic theater at 1215 U Street in Washington, D.C., next to Ben's Chili Bowl on what was known as Washington's Black Broadway. It served the city's African American community during segregation, pairing a movie house and ballroom that hosted jazz and big-band greats such as Duke Ellington. Closed after the 1968 riots, it was restored and reopened in 1994 for a broad program of performances and events. Alice Smith is a r&b act.
