Yung Gravy, born Matthew Raymond Hauri in Rochester, Minnesota, started making music while studying for a marketing degree at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, developing branding strategies for start-ups on the side. Inspired by the rise of Lil Yachty and Lil Peep, he began on SoundCloud, quit his other jobs in 2017 and spent months self-recording. "Mr. Clean" and "1 Thot 2 Thot Red Thot Blue Thot" both received platinum certifications, and "Betty (Get Money)" gave him a first Billboard Hot 100 entry at number 30 in 2022. He is closely associated with Canadian rapper bbno$, with whom he has released two collaborative albums and an extended play.
