Yaeji is a Korean-American electronic musician born Kathy Yaeji Lee on August 6, 1993, in Flushing, Queens, and based in Brooklyn. Blending deep house with hip hop and mellow, half-whispered vocals sung in both English and Korean, she emerged after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University, releasing her first single in 2016. A 2017 Boiler Room session drew wide attention, and singles like "Raingurl" helped make her a fixture of underground dance music. She was named to the BBC's Sound of 2018 longlist, played Coachella, and released her debut album With a Hammer in 2023 on XL Recordings.
