About
WONDERboom are a four-piece rock band from Johannesburg, formed in 1996 when Martin Schofield, Wade Williams and Martin Otto — Cito — of the Eight Legged Groove Machine joined the Electric Petals' drummer Danny de Wet. Initially performing as the Electric Petal Groove Machine, they opened for Simple Minds on that band's South African tour two weeks later; the name arrived in 1997 from a road sign near Kroonstad. Nine studio albums, several South African Music Award nominations for Best Rock Album and songs such as "Never Ever" and "Jafta Rebel" followed, along with the South African leg of the Global Battle of the Bands in 2004 and the Silk Road Indie Music Festival in Chengdu in 2017. Jonathan Bell joined on drums after Garth McLeod's death in 2013.
