Wilco are an American rock band formed in Chicago in 1994 by singer-guitarist Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stirratt from the remnants of alt-country pioneers Uncle Tupelo. Restlessly moving between alternative country, indie rock and more experimental territory, they made their name with 2002's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, an album Reprise rejected before the band reclaimed the masters and released it themselves to acclaim. Its follow-up, A Ghost Is Born, won two Grammys in 2005, including Best Alternative Music Album. Now a six-piece anchored by guitarist Nels Cline and drummer Glenn Kotche, Wilco have released more than a dozen studio albums and built a reputation as one of America's most reliably inventive live bands.
