Underscores is the project of April Harper Grey, an American singer-songwriter and producer born in San Francisco who works at the restless edge of hyperpop. She began posting dubstep to SoundCloud as a teenager before her range widened, and after several EPs she broke through with the 2021 debut album Fishmonger. Her acclaimed second album Wallsocket followed in 2023 on Mom + Pop, drawing on influences from Madonna to Bruce Springsteen and even country and horror films, and she released her third album, U, in March 2026. Grey opened for 100 Gecs in 2021 and mounted her own headline tours from 2022 onward. She is set to open for Charli XCX in the autumn of 2026, extending a live profile built on the genre's boundary-pushing energy.
