Tree63 are a three-piece rock band from Durban, formed in 1996. They were simply "Tree" until a Boston band of that name forced a change in 2000; the "63" came from their second album, titled after Psalm 63. Their first American release, Tree63, won the GMA Dove Award for Rock Album of the Year in 2001, and their recording of Matt Redman's "Blessed Be Your Name" reached number two on the Billboard Christian Songs chart. The band parted ways in 2009, after which John Ellis returned to South Africa and released the solo album Come Out Fighting in 2010; they reconvened for South African concerts in 2014 and made Land in Nashville. In 2024 Ellis relaunched Tree63 with Angus Warden on drums and Deon Knipe on bass.
